Summer breaks !

Hello people ! It's been a while since I've updated my blog. It's Summer time and I am thoroughly enjoying my summer break.  I am a stay at home mom and my breaks only come along with the kids' school breaks which unfortunately is coming to an end now. I have been taking it easy, really easy the past few months and at times I feel I've gone into a standby mode. I wish I could stay that way forever . Sigh !

This Summer, the kids and I did a lot of painting and sketching and while they would be busy with their own paintings, I utilised my time with some DIYs . It's actually bad to be bitten by the DIY bug. You want to do just about everything yourself. My kitchen was going through some renovation and for a couple of days we were confined to our rooms since the whole place was full of saw dust, nails, Fevicol , plywood, mica sheets and the carpenters themselves. Not much action taking place other than the sawing of wood and the hammering of nails so I thought of doing something with an old table lying at my place . There was a crack on the surface and it looks shabby when used that way.I was planning to paint it and make it look presentable but somehow I just could'nt find the time. So, this seemed to be a good time and I needed no special motivation to start off with my brush and a set of acrylic paints.

Quilting has been one of my favourite forms of art work and somehow I just love quilted things. I tried to bring a similar look on my table by painting something that would look like a quilted piece of table cloth.

And this is what I got after I spent two days bending over this, working extensively with the different forms of patterns. It was actually fun because this needed no precision or symmetry. It was just a medley of designs and patterns that formed spontaneously in my mind, I did'nt  need to check the exact details or measure any lines. I just went with the flow and patterns formed on their own. The kids contributed by giving colour combinations and at times insisting on particular patterns like polka dots ( my daughter's favourite) and zig zag lines ( my son's) so it was a fun filled, hassle free project :)

And, like any other table, this one had to pass the acid test too. A surface only looks good when it compliments a cup of tea that has been lovingly placed on it and viewed several times from different angles :) What say ???
